DIY Fabric Applique Cards

Today's post is brought to you by Vicky, from Vicky Myers Creations. I'm happy to have her here, sharing a fun tutorial with you guys. I think her fabric scrap cards are so cute!

If you are anything like me lots of sewing projects equals lots of fabric scraps.. This project is perfect for using some of those gorgeous fabrics you have to make unique personal cards. I hate throwing even scraps away - there may be a reason why I have never written a blog post on a tidy craft room!

Recently we were invited to housewarming BBQ, half an hour before we were due to leave for the party I realized we had no card, or gift... I quickly rustled up a house warming card with fabric scarps. Much to the irritation of my husband I couldn't resist photographing as I went so I could write a tutorial:) Materials:
  • Card
  • Fabric
  • Glue Stick
  • Sewing machine and thread
To make: Cut out base fabric, three squares and three triangles - I have used old shirts on a denim base.

  Fabric Shapes

Position in place on your base fabric, use your glue stick to temporarily adhere into place.

  Fabric Card design

Machine Stitch around shapes, this adds definition and holds the fabric securely.

  Machine Stitched Card

Hand stitch on your choice of buttons

  Button details

Using your glue stick position and hold denim onto card. Machine stitch into place. On the reverse I suggest trimming a piece of paper slightly smaller and gluing over, this hides the back of the stitching and the fabric ends.

If you are not confident about drawing your own ideas why not do an image search on the internet, and for line drawings of images you could always specify "colouring in picture of x"

  1. So cute! I need to get a sewing machine!

  2. So cute! I am overloaded with tiny scraps right now, but I just can't throw them out. I'm thinking Christmas cards would use them up! I've got a Craft Gossip post scheduled for later today that links to your tutorial:

I love your comments!
