In Fair Verona- Art Journal Zine

Today I have another art journal zine to share, I love doing these! It's fun to have a miniature art journal done in one theme.
You can find the previous zines I've participated in here- SpaceSeaBoldVintageWoodland, SpiritGirl Boss,Goth Imagination,Infinite PossibilitiesHome, Vanessa.

The "Zine Squad" consists of 3 main members, Myself, Vanessa and Julia, and then we usually ask another art journaler or two to join us on gifting a zine to someone.

This time around we joined Karen in making a Romeo and Juliet themed zine for Emily.

I have a secret to share- I've never actually read or watched Romeo and Julie. Unless, of course, you count Gnomeo and Juliet. :) So I felt a bit of a fraud when making these pages, I still had fun though.

The cover: I added the little rose and gems.

Left page by me, Right page by Karen.
You know I love a good space page, so I tried to match Karen's pretty starry background.

Spread by me.

Julia did the page right after this one, using some felt tip markers and they bled through to this page in pretty jewel tone colors. Inspired by that, I got out my paints and made a bright, fun background.

I drew "juliet" onto some a piece of white paper and adhered her on top.

Left page by me.

I had the last page in the zine, and I was inspired by Verona, Italy. I collaged some papers down and went over them with watercolors and gesso. I wanted to doodle on some Italian style "tiles" in purple. Do you think that's what the look like? I hope so!

I love collaborating on art journals like this! I highly encourage you guys to go visit their blogs and see the rest of the zine, because the rest of the pages are amazing!

What do you think? Even though I'm terribly uneducated (and totally okay with that!) on Romeo and Juliet, I do like the finished zine!

  1. Beautiful! I think that starry page is by karen though... ;)

  2. I loved receiving this amazing Zine, so firstly Thank You ! I have looked and touched the pages so many times, it really is a treasure to me. This morning reading about how everyone made the pages has made me feel inspired with my own art journaling, and also so grateful to be part of the wonderful community of art journalers that is Get Messy. Thanks again Katie and Zine squad <3

I love your comments!
